Frequently Asked Questions

What are the costs involved?

Finding a solution that meets your needs is a critical part of the decision process but so is the financial component. Costs vary depending on the type of community you select. Typically, costs are broken down into two categories; 1) basic services and 2) care costs. Basic service costs include monthly rent, most utilities, housekeeping services, entertainment & programming, transportation and meals. Care costs vary depending upon the level of care needed. We will be able to give you more accurate pricing information once we have a better understanding of your individual needs.

My loved one needs to move but they refuse. What can I do?

90% or more of seniors who need to make a move don’t want to. There are a number of reasons for not wanting to make a move - fear of the unknown, denial about the care one may need, the costs involved, guilt and leaving a houseful of memories just to name a few. Our job is to help you have these tough conversations with your loved one and guide you through the process. We have successfully worked with hundreds of families for nearly two decades. We will guide you through the transition in a way that allows your loved one to feel empowered and part of the process.

How much do I have to pay JLS?

Nothing- our services are free to families. Our compensation comes from the living facilities themselves.

What are the differences between assisted living and memory care? How do I know which is best for my situation?

Assisted Living communities offer assistance for those who require additional help with some of the activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, meal preparation, cleaning, transportation and medication management. These communities also offer social programs and activities as well. Exercise classes, bible studies, book clubs, art classes, happy hours, movies, outings and more!

Memory Care offers nearly all that Assisted Living provides but in a more intimate and secure environment for those with cognitive challenges. Care and programming is person-focused and tailored to meet the needs of each person and where they are in the disease. Alzheimer’s disease is one of many forms of dementia. Not everyone with a diagnosis of dementia will immediately need Memory Care. Oftentimes, Assisted Living can be appropriate in the early stages of the disease. Memory Care can also be an ideal environment for those with Parkinson’s, traumatic brain injuries or illness such as ALS or cancers of the brain.

A nurse will perform an assessment prior to admission regardless of whether you are looking for assisted living or memory care. This assessment will help to determine the level of care needed and whether or not the community can accommodate those care needs.
